WWE has a Sink or Swim mentality, where they annually mass release wrestlers they do not see value in (even in the face of commercial and critical success) and as a company are often accused of favoritism with their talent. WWE has also had critically inconsistent programming which makes fan investment in characters difficult. AEW by contrast is a promotion that has consistent critically successful programming and allows for much more input from the performers regarding storylines and their character progression. AEW has a habit of signing former WWE talent and paying them competitive wages, as a result of this MJF who is the second biggest draw in AEW is currently paid 4 to 5 times less than an average ex-WWE wrestler in AEW. MJF's contract is up in 2024.
